Plus you can't rename group chats (although you can pin them, which is nice - but if I could only have one of renaming/pinning, I'd go with renaming). The chat bubbles look like shit in dark mode, I hate the huge dead space at the top when you open the inbox (yes, I know they did that so you can access the first conversation easier with one hand, but I don't need that - so let me turn it off), and the way they present the time stamps annoys me.

I can't stand the look of Samsung's default messaging app. Luckily I don't have to mute conversations often enough for it to matter. How about a simple long-press > mute conversation? I get they're trying to do the whole unified notifications system bullshit but have a little common sense here.

Oh yeah, and an EASY way to mute notifications for a conversation, without actually having to go in to the conversation, open the group details, open the notifications settings, and toggle the slider just for that conversation - such an asinine approach. Pretty much the last major feature I want for Google Messages. Just wish you could pin conversations to the top of the inbox. I use the "Darkful" icon pack with Nova Launcher and their icon for it looks pretty badass too. Plus GM doesn't look bad to me when the dark theme is on. I love the customization of Textra, but I need the actual functionality of Google Messages. That and the fact that I can attach existing video clips straight from within the conversation (unlike Textra by default), and have zero issues sending/receiving MMS group texts/media on WiFi calling (also unlike Textra). With other apps I have to actually type out the code, or open the message all the way up and highlight the code manually to copy it. Haven't found another SMS app yet that can do this. One of my favorite features of Google Messages is its ability to recognize when you get sent a temporary access code, and ask if you want to copy JUST THE CODE to your clipboard, straight from the push notification.
